Standing at an easel, you swirl colors onto paper. Time seems to melt away as you bring your vision to life. All too soon, the bell rings.
In those art classes, during our school years, you and I had the opportunity to explore our creativity.
This summer, San Pedro Art Association once again celebrates that exploration–by welcoming the next generation of artists to enter their twelfth annual “Harbor Wide All Grades Student Art Competition and Exhibition”!

Students in the Harbor area, in elementary, middle school and high school, are invited to enter.
Accepted art mediums, according to SPAA’s website, will be: charcoal, pastel (chalk or oil), all drawing materials, all painting materials, and photography (darkroom or digital).
A panel of art professionals will serve as judges. Submitted artwork may be of any appropriate subject matter, at the judges’ discretion.
Winning competition entries receive cash prizes, and winning entries will be professionally framed and exhibited at CRAFTED, where San Pedro Art Association exhibits their work, year-round. Selected student works will also be featured in an online exhibition, shown throughout the year.

In addition, every student who enters will receive a 150-piece art set, as well as an award ribbon and student membership with SPAA through high school.
Nonprofit San Pedro Art Association has just celebrated 80 years of serving artists in the San Pedro and surrounding Harbor communities. Since 1936, they’ve been in continuous operation, with classes, exhibits, art walks, exhibits (including their weekly Melrose Trading Post appearances and their ongoing displays at CRAFTED) and, of course, the Student Art Competition.
The competition is free to enter, but heads-up: the entry deadline, May 9th, is coming up fast!

Entering, says SPAA, is “super easy”. Students may take a photo of their artwork and send it in by text or email: here is the contact information. Submissions must be accompanied by the student’s name, grade, school and a signed permission form.
SPAA volunteers can also pick up entries and forms at the entrants’ school.
